Laura da Silva

Senior Consultant


Laura da Silva, med. vet., is an ECVPH resident and doctoral scholar in veterinary public health, with a focus on epidemiology, One Health, and infectious disease control. Her research interests encompass zoonotic and neglected tropical diseases, antimicrobial usage and resistance, and the application of data science, statistical analysis, and machine learning in public health. Her PhD research investigates the behaviour of free-roaming dogs to support improved rabies control strategies. She is also involved in projects evaluating the accuracy and reliability of geolocated contact sensors, applying artificial intelligence to animal welfare and livestock biosafety, and developing smart animal health and integrated surveillance systems within a One Health framework. She holds a Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Lisbon and completed an internship at the Veterinary Public Health Institute at the University of Bern, where she focused on zoonotic disease investigations, particularly dog-mediated rabies. She is currently working as a Veterinary Medicine Assistant at the Veterinary Public Health Institute, University of Bern.
