Dr Dilwar Hussain

Project Manager


Dilwar Hussain is a population and public health researcher currently serving as Project Manager at the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He is working on the DBT-funded project titled “Implementing a Comprehensive One Health Approach to Eliminate Dog-Mediated Rabies from India,” contributing to interdisciplinary efforts that integrate human, animal, and environmental health perspectives. Dilwar has recently completed his Ph.D. at the Centre for the Study of Regional Development (CSRD), Jawaharlal Nehru University. His doctoral research, “Nutritional Status of the Children in the Flood-Prone District of Malda, West Bengal,” examined the impact of flood exposure on child health using both quantitative and qualitative methods, highlighting the influence of socioeconomic, maternal, and environmental determinants on child malnutrition.

Dilwar previously completed his M.Phil. and Master’s in Population Studies from the International Institute for Population Sciences, where his research focused on “educational attainment and workforce participation in India”, strengthening his expertise in demographic and socioeconomic analysis. Dr. Hussain has extensive expertise with large-scale national datasets, including NFHS, SAGE, LASI, IHDS, and Census data. He is proficient in STATA, SPSS, ArcGIS, and GeoDa. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in reputed international journals, including Environmental Research, GeoJournal, PLOS Global Public Health, PLOS One, and BMC Public Health. His research broadly lies at the intersection of health, climate vulnerability, nutrition, and development, with a strong focus on marginalized and climate-affected populations.
